EVERYTHING IS LOVE is a collaborative album by The Carters, composed of married couple Beyoncé and Jay-Z. It was released on the streaming service Tidal on June 16, 2018 with no prior announcement taking place. The album features guest vocals by Pharrell Williams, Quavo, Offset, among others. The album is supported by lead single "Apeshit", and non-album promotional bonus track "Salud!". On June 6, 2018, Beyoncé and Jay-Z embarked on the joint On the Run II Tour, a sequel to their first collaborative tour in 2014. Following the show in London on June 16, 2018, EVERYTHING IS LOVE was released on Tidal exclusively. The news of the duo's new album was announced by a sign on stage which announced: "album out now". Following that, the release was shared on the artists' respective social media profiles with the artist of the album being dubbed as The Carters. On the same day, the music video for the album's second track, "Apeshit", was released on Beyoncé's official YouTube channel. It was directed by Ricky Saiz and filmed at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Plans about a joint release by the duo were announced by Jay Z during an interview with The New York Times when he said that him and his wife used "art almost like a therapy session" to create new music. However, since they also worked on their albums 4:44 and Lemonade and Beyonce's music progressed more rapidly, the project was temporarily stopped. Rumours about the collaborative project started emerging in March of 2018 when the duo also announced their joint tour. The album opens with the track "Summer" which contains lyrics about the couple's romantic love, a theme that was found to be characteristic of the whole record. Other songs feature the pair singing about their lifestyles and family affairs as well as maintaining their relationship following hardships. Malament and James Dewitt Yancey, and performed by Common. - "Heard About Us" contains an interpolation of "Juicy", written by Sean "Puffy" Combs, James Mtume, Jean-Claude Olivier and Christopher Wallace, and performed by The Notorious B.I.G. - "Black Effect" contains a sample of "Broken Strings", written and performed by Jun Kozuki of Flower Travellin' Band. - "Lovehappy" contains a sample of “You Make My Life A Sunny Day”, written by Eddie Campbell, Ernie Johnson and Pete James, and performed by Eddie & Ernie. According to The New York Times writer Joe Coscarelli, "the sudden release immediately sent fans and the industry into a tizzy". He also felt that the album "completes the Knowles-Carter conceptual trilogy", referring to the previous releases of Lemonade and 4:44, "in an expert, tactical showing of family brand management".
